A bizarre specimen, truly – Odd is one of the few people to be recovered from the obsidian scales, and the only one to survive so long afterwards, too. A simple, sluggish sprite from the far reaches of the astral realm made the shadestone slough off his body when it possesed him. Only one “problem,” the researches quickly learned – he was not, apparently, the young girl who’d once inhabited that body. Obsidian Systems quickly took custody of him after that. There, he trained as a sorcerer, where he completely dedicated himself to his studies – they became his identity. To prevent himself from spiraling, he hyperfocuses on sigils and signals and such.

Audrist is impolite and asocial; he has difficulty talking to others and is easily frustrated by this. While his previous lifestyle enabled this, he’s SOL now… After an unexpected turn of events, he accidentally killed his sponsor. Privy to closely guarded trade secrets, Audrist is now a hot commodity on the Sorcerers’ Island – technically, this protects him, because it keeps him from being hunted for sport, but it’s still more or less a nightmare for him. In the past, Odd never thought to think much of his future, which was clearly predetermined. Now, he’s got a lot to think about. He’s terrified of death, though, so there’s no way out but through.

He resents that even now, his life seems to revolve around Obsidian Systems. Rather than putting it all into taking them down, Audrist declares that he’ll be an artist, to the disappointment of many. He is not prideful about his work, but he is absolutely obsessed with it. His personal work is usually strange and unpleasant. He leaves it in public places where it serves mostly to bother others. Odd cannot articulate his own motivations, if he’s even concious of them in the first place. Though he is fully capable of making “useful” things, no amount of money can change his mind if he doesn't feel like it. Nonetheless, he is prone to giving gifts. Though he bristles at the lightest touch, he is very loyal and violently protective over anyone who does gain his trust.

That sprite, the astropod, fused into his body, replacing the lower lobe of his right lung. While it technically makes him immune to most diseases or poisons, it overreacts to material existence and regularly fills his lungs and chest with ectoplasm. His mask helps him to clear it away. The sprite gives him the ability to “swim” through shadows, but only for as long as he can hold his breath (which isn’t long). Without a brace, his tail trails on the floor and leaves a slime trail. The device also allows him to change the shape and hardness of its goopy frill.

The friendship between Zee and Odd is equal parts baffling and frightful. They appear as complete opposites; it’s surprising to others that they “get along” as well as they do. In reality, they do have some things in common – capriciousness, short-sighted pursuits of pleasure, and a repertoire of wretched creations. Their potential to wreak havoc is concerning; luckily (?) they’re impeded by their collective lack of common sense. Odd and Zee often engage in petty squabbles that are forgotten within the hour. They’ve been producing “bugs” that collect information from around the island, which they sometimes sell.

Mery’s initial encounter with Odd is contentious. Audrist swears he will prove Meridian is a fraud, which seemed easy in theory, but… Meanwhile, Mery’s attempts to assuage him are poorly received. Although they consider each other threats to themselves, their roles cause them to spend a lot of time together. In time, some sort of mutual respect arose, both thinking the other is the only one who takes them seriously. Zee thinks they should just fuck already.

Odd and Vita’s strong personalities clash, though it seems to be little more than an annoyance on both sides. Since Vita is the only remotely qualified medic of the group, they inevitably spend some time together and perhaps grumble about their various vexations. Their enemies are friends (well, "friends") so they must be as well. Vita mentally categorizes him as a henchman, even though he hardly ever listens to her.

It’s nearly unthinkable that Audrist rejected Anata’s offer to become their apprentice, but he’s done it several times. Anata still thinks he’ll come around; they’d really like to hear about those trade secrets. It’s probably not in his best interest to change their mind… But when has that ever stopped him?
