A mysterious girl from Lantern Island who seldom bothers to elaborate on her origins or intentions – this is because she doesn’t think them worth talking about. After all, there are always waaay more interesting things to discuss here at the Sorcerers’ Market. Zee has no innate magic beyond that of a normal human herself, but she is knowledgeable enough in sorcery to maintain a labyrinth architecture. This skill makes her the important person in the group in spite of the fact that she is petty, fickle, and potentially unhinged.
Zee grew up in a small village where orthodox Zencari missionaries arrived from Xalabase several generations ago. There, life was strict and boring; she’d often been at odds with her religious family, especially after she returned from her studies as herself. Zee can’t help but be fascinated by magic, which she was often scolded for as a child. After she discovered the ruins of an old traveling temple in the forest; she used her newfound connection to the current to learn enough sorcerery to restore it. She’s good with machines and codes, but the “logic” of magic doesn’t come as easily to her – spitefully, she wonders if this is because of her upbringing. She feels the insatiable urge to know as much as possible and hates being left in the dark about, well, anything.
When her family discovered what she had been doing, Zee left on the airship – repaired adequately – and went straight to the Sorcerer’s Market. There, she began finding people to expand her compound space. Somehow, Zee’s fortune is incredible as of recent… She attributes this to the fact that she’s learning to lucid dream. She’s overly trusting and often acts on a whim, much to the frustration of her companions. They can never be sure what she’ll do next; the one thing they can predict is that she’ll end up having fun somehow. Zee seems to fear neither fate nor death.
If there’s one driving force in her life, its her interest in the mysterious lost relics of the previous arc, ancient technology said to make the modern day look medieval. She pursues this interest no matter how ill-advised. Some have noted that she has the personality of a reliquary, but none would dare to speak such a think into being. Zee and Odd create all sorts of contraptions together. Zee is often trailed by drones when she doesn’t simply send them out in her stead. She can use them to attract small objects and manipulate velocity within a small range.
The friendship between Zee and Odd is equal parts baffling and frightful. They appear as complete opposites; it’s surprising to others that they “get along” as well as they do. In reality, they do have some things in common – capriciousness, short-sighted pursuits of pleasure, and a repertoire of wretched creations. Their potential to wreak havoc is concerning; luckily (?) they’re impeded by their collective lack of common sense. Odd and Zee often engage in petty squabbles that are forgotten within the hour. They’ve been producing “bugs” that collect information from around the island, which they sometimes sell.
When Vita arrived, Zee was overjoyed… much to Vita’s suspicion and annoyance. Once Zee realizes what a wet blanket they are, she finds it genuinely funny (maybe even charming, somehow) and messes with them for her own amusement. Although it’s wary about her motives, Vita can’t figure her out at all and wonders if maybe she really is just crazy. Zee goes along with anything, but Vita knows she’s not under its thumb. There’s a provocative undertone in her voice when she calls it bestieee...
Unsurprisingly, Zee is fascinated with him as a piece of lost technology from the old era. She’s itching to know more, but he doesn’t know much, either. He entertains her; the idea of revealing his own nature is intriguing. Whether or not he likes what he learns is a subject for another day.
Zee meets Yani in the astral lounge. Instantly, she’s enamored with her, but Yani doesn’t even seem to notice her feelings, much less return them. When Yani requests basic tasks of Zee in the terrestrial realm, she carries them out with… artistic interpretation. Yani is not informed of the details and doesn’t think to ask.
